When people think of Apple products most think “simple” “virus free” or the one that always gets me “it just works.” Yes mac products are super user friendly, less prone to virus attacks (for now), and as the slogan indicates - “they work.” But what happens when these little gifts from god stop working? Do you just pay your respects and go on with your life? Apple has done a great job at lulling the public minds into thinking that when your iPod or Macbook stops working that “it was just it’s time to go.” Some rush to the closest Genius bar to seek counsel from the mighty exalted ones - “the Mac Geniuses,” where they are later greeted by a relaxed middle-aged heavyset guy named Todd, with dark rimmed classes and a faux hawk. (By the way, if you go in without an appointment be prepared to wait at least 30 minutes to an hour to be helped.) From my experience, these geniuses will try some quick home remedies like resetting your iPod, running some diagnostic tests and if warranty merits, replace it a couple days later. On the other hand, If your warranty has expired the response is more than likely that its fried and the only option is to recycle and start a new. There is another option,”play god.” For those of you who don’t already know, there is a handy little site called ifixit.com. This site has everything one would ever need to bring your brilliant little toys back to life. From iPod cases to logic boards for your Macbooks, ifixit has it all. With step by step tutorials and picture references “even a cave man could do it” … yea i said it.
