When iPhone was released, we all knew it was going to take the mobile industry by storm and astonish us ceaselessly. What many of us might not have anticipated, let alone expected, is the sheer ease with which the iPhone is all set to overtake Nintendo, Sony PSP and the likes in the gaming arena. Out rightly rivaling handheld gaming consoles, the iPhone is all set to game its way down in history with its SDK implementation when it takes off the runway this June. The way the prospects look, it seems anyone with the idea of toying with the iPhone and developing games might just get to hold the boon and be granted his wishes. The only hurdle that one can envision is the prohibitive cost of the iPhonepriced around $400 which is indeed a comparatively high price for a handheld gaming device. However, seeing that Apple’s iPhone is primarily a smart phone and then a gaming device, the cost rates secondary to the immense pool of facilities it endeavors to provide. If Apple were to actually take up the task of stocking themselves up with a decent range of games, they are sure to overshoot Nintendo and Sony sales by more than a mile. They might even come out with an exclusive gaming console at a price to compete with the handheld gaming devices market and establish themselves as ideal competition at a lower price. Apple however for now, has set its sights on leveraging the iPhone.Going by the SDK promise, it looks like the future is awaiting a whole different class of performance, where iPhones are concerned.Just yesterday, a group of us were sitting around and a friend whipped out his iPhone to play a game. And we were incessantly amazed by the ease with which he could manage the game on the iPhone. Almost, nay, just like a handheld, even better actually.

I think some cell phone companies have tried that. Like Nokia, they even introduced a new phone model that is designed for gaming. But it did not deliver the expected income Nokia was hoping for it. For the iPhone, I’m just worried about the battery life. The more features you have on your phone the faster the batteries are drained.

Gaming on the iPhone is a natural concept I would say. Why carry around a PSP or a DS when you can just play games on the iPhone. I hope that development for iPhone games gets the necessary backing because it could really produce some sweet applications.

If they turn the iPhone into a gaming device then they are going to have to do something about the battery life. I’ve got the iPod touch and a few hours on the Internet and the battery is dead, I think its really poor and not what I expected for the amount I paid for it. So if they are doing this gaming for the iPhone are they doing it for the iPod touch too?

Hopefully they have taken the battery life into consideration. I think it would be a grand idea otherwise. Instead of carrying around a bunch of different devices, wouldn’t it be great to have your games, camera, web browser, phone, etc. etc. etc. all in one ?
