Multi touch Investment Banker Piper Jaffray revealed on Tuesday that Apple Inc. the mac maker is taking its first footsteps in developing a personal system with the latest multi touch technology instead of the now obsolete traditional input mechanisms.  Looking forward to around 2010 when the software requirements will be available, the statement is in corroboration with Gene Muster’s comment - “Looking into 2010, we expect Apple to advance its touch screen technology, known as multi-touch, from simple track pad features to a complete MacBook touch with touch screen keypad features. Discussions we have had with component suppliers indicate that Apple is already testing full multi-touch Macs, but the software requirements will likely lead to a launch timeframe of 2010.” These futuristic concepts have come to public notice via the various patent applications that Apple has had to file. Using a sheer variety of gestures that can be classified as natural, Apple seeks to develop its multi touch processing without a glitch. The drawing above illustrates how Apple has looked ahead and forged ahead with a pre designed Mac OS X control panel to customize these hand gestures the user will have to use on the multi touch screens. If you still want it straight from the horse’s mouth, earlier, Steve Jobs had classified the multi touch Mac as a research project. When somebody had referred to the iPhone’s multitouch sensing and asked, “What about for the Mac?” Steve, surprisingly, replied. “Makes sense for the iPhone, not sure it makes sense in the Mac. Classify that as a research project.” From research to reality? It remains to be seen.

A touch screen mac would be very cool to use. I wander If you would be able to do every function by touch or if it would be additional to a keyboard. I bet these ‘touch screen macs’ would cost a fortune to buy. Does anyone else think this is a cool idea?

I think that’s a cool idea, I would definitely wait for that product to be launched so other computer manufacturers would also follow. The result would be a sharp drop of prices of the traditional computers and that would be the best time for me to go bargain hunting.

Oh yeah I didn’t think of what it would do to prices of other computers. I’ll probably to bargain hunting too. I wander if they did realease touch screen macs in 2010, if microsoft would realease something similar at the same time?

Microsoft has released Surface already, which unfortunately I accept as something far more advanced and futuristic than any other electronic product in the market! Its not for the consumer market yet, but has caught my imagination. and sad to accept that unlike my iPhone’s double touch, Surface IS multi-touch literally.. check out the videos. http://www.microsoftsurface.com

Ouch, those fonts are bit hard to read but I got the gist of it. I think this touch screen would be an awesome idea, but I wouldn’t spend a fortune on it. For me it would be nice to have, but not something I would go out of my way to seek out.
