It has almost been five months since Mac lovers finally laid their hands on Mac OS X 10.5 - the “Leopard”, which of course talks of more than three hundred new features including Docks stacks function, Spaces, Time Machine, Screen Sharing and the like, to name the popular ones. Buried just beneath that sheath of popularity hides numerous other features, unknown to the various users who do not know it even though they have it installed on their systems for a long time now. These may be stuff you have never even heard of so far or say even noticed they exist or their scope for the matter. But of course, as hidden stuff always are, you never know they exist. One of the many such innovations is the Automator.
The Automator is a simple method of automating common tasks and bridging numerous applications at once. Another new feature is the recording provision in Automator.Leopard makes Automator more of a pleasure to work with. It allows users to mention what sort of data they want in using for a workflow when the Automater is launched or on the creation of the workflow. Starting Points enable easy determination of the source of the data - whether it is iTunes or iPhoto or iSight. The technology of the record function works in a manner very similar to the AppleScript Script Editor, except the improvising that its more broad in its implementation as it is based on the Universal Access Feature of Leopard.
