Apple might be working on a new application called the ‘iControl’ for the iPhone which would allow iTunes media to be streamed from the iTunes libraries, onto the iPhone. The media navigator would allow viewing of videos, playing of pod casts, listening to music and yes, it even supports shuffle. Evidence, it has been reported is to be found in the form of localization strings in the iPhone Beta Firmware lately released.
“A portable multimedia player on the lines of the iPod manufactured by Apple Computer, Inc. of Cupertino, California is used to wireless-ly access and control a media server such as a personal computer running iTunes software that is streaming digital media by way of a wireless interface to a media unit such as a stereo/speakers in the case of streaming digital audio.”
No time line has been postulated for the release of iControl of course. However, since the SDK promotions in February, it is expected, Apple will release a few official iPhone Apps of their own. iControl might just be the first of many such Apps to come.

That’s really cool that the iphone can stream the itunes libraries. That’d be cool feature to have. I’ll have to tell my friend about it because she has the newer iphone. I wonder when the icontrol will be available on the iphone.

What? For some reason I thought this was a given? Or, does this mean it will be able to stream any library it’s connected to? That’d be cool. With my iPod, I found it frustrating not being able to at least play my iPod library on others’ pcs. I don’t have an iPhone, but I imagine a lot of people would appreciate a feature like this.
