Adobe systems Inc. of late has said it would license its video-enabling Flash software to mobile devices, free of cost to make the Internet experience on the mobile almost as good as the experiences on the computer. The statement of course smells of more than just sheer perspiration in the face of desperate circumstances.
In what has been labeled the Open Screen Project, Flash endeavors to support mobile makers like Motorola Inc., Nokia Corporation, Samsung Electronics, Sony Ericsson and Toshiba, chip makers inclusive of Intel and Qualcomm and content providers including NBC Universal, MTV Networks and BBC to name a few.
Many mobile applications have met with disappointment from consumers. And game and video developers have been burdened with cranking out numerous versions of applications for mobile devices, said Kevin Lynch, Adobe’s chief technology officer. “You have to make over 100 different versions of that game in order to actually make it work across all these different phones,” Lynch further elaborated, justifying Flash’s earnest involvement in the Open Screen Project.
Most noticeable by their conspicuous absence is Apple Inc. The iPhone does not use flash on its smart phones and of course, the severe criticisms voiced by Apple’s Chief Executive Steve Jobs has been widely reported. Jobs had publicly critiqued Adobe of being too slow. Adobe however, on a hopeful note adds that it is working on a version of Flash customized for the iPhone, now that the information necessary to custom fit software to the Apple’s OS has been released by Apple.

I don’t like playing games on my phone because the games are wicked slow and they don’t have decent graphics. I’d rather not pay for a game for my phone and not play it because of the graphics.

@Kara : iPhone has a great graphic potential. It has full OpenGL ES support.
Check out games like Raging Thunder or Yeti3D, these are simple demos demonstrating the quality of Graphics on the iPhone.
Also do watch the SDK Launch event video from Apples site. Super Money Ball from Nintendo on the iPhone looks simply amazing. The graphics are very close to what the Playstation Portable provides.
About the Flash, Adobe needs Apple’s help inorder to implement it on the iPhone. Whether or not Apple is helping Adobe is still unknown !
